(46692) Taormina is an asteroid of the main inner belt that was discovered on February 2, 1997 by the Czech astronomer couple Jana Tichá and Miloš Tichý at the Kleť Observatory ( IAU code 046) near Český Krumlov .
The mean diameter of the asteroid was calculated to be 3.034 km (± 0.822).
Mean solar distance ( major semi-axis ), eccentricity and inclination of the orbit plane of the asteroid correspond to the Vesta family , a large group of asteroids named after (4) Vesta , the second largest asteroid and third largest celestial body in the main belt.
(46692) Taormina is named after the Sicilian city of Taormina , which Jana Tichá and Miloš Tichý visited in 2001. The name was given by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) on March 6, 2004.
