(6097) Koishikawa is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 29 October 1991 by the Japanese astronomer Kin EnDate and Kazuro Watanabe at Kitami Observatory ( IAU code 400) in Kitami in Hokkaido was discovered, the second largest island of Japan. The first sightings of the asteroid had already been made in November 1942 at the observatory of the University of Turku (IAU code 062) under the provisional designation 1942 VV.

The asteroid belongs to the Vesta family , a large group of asteroids named after (4) Vesta , the second largest asteroid and third largest celestial body in the main belt.

It was named on April 4, 1996 after the Japanese astronomer Masahiro Koishikawa (* 1952), who discovered several asteroids while working at the Sendai Observatory at the Ayashi Station there and tries to establish astronomy as part of social education in the public consciousness.
