(6305) Helgoland is an asteroid of the inner main belt , which was discovered on April 6, 1989 by the German astronomer Freimut Börngen at the Thuringian State Observatory Tautenburg ( IAU code 033) in Thuringia .
The asteroid was named after the German island of Helgoland .
