(6904) McGill is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 22 August 1990 by the American astronomer Henry E. Holt at Palomar Observatory ( IAU code 675) in California was discovered.

The asteroid was named on March 9, 2001 after McGill University in Montreal , founded in 1821 , the oldest university in Canada .
