(8003) Kelvin is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on September 1, 1987 by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the La Silla Observatory ( IAU code 809) of the European Southern Observatory .
The celestial body is named after the British physicist William Thomson, 1st Baron Kelvin (1824–1907).
