(8558) Hack is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 1 August 1995 by the Italian astronomer Luciano Tesi and Andrea Boattini the Pistoia Mountains Astronomical Observatory ( IAU code 104) in Tuscany was discovered.

The asteroid was named after the Italian astrophysicist and science journalist Margherita Hack (* 1922; † 2013), who headed the Trieste Astronomical Observatory from 1964 to 1987 .
