(8634) Neubauer is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 5 April 1981 by the American astronomer Edward LG Bowell at the Anderson Mesa Station ( IAU code 688) of the Lowell Observatory in Coconino County , Arizona was discovered.

The asteroid was named on May 23, 2000 after the German geophysicist Fritz M. Neubauer (* 1940), whose main research area is geomagnetism and the construction of magnetometers for space missions.
