action
Frank Nolan and Martin took rich booty in a bank robbery; Frank was injured and is left helpless by Nolan, who takes the money with him. Frank can still shoot him in the back.
Many years later: Martin rules a sizable piece of land and is in a wheelchair. With numerous men he extorted protection money and rents from the surrounding farmers and brutally shot down any form of resistance. Only Sarah, a young widow, remains steadfast. One day she is helped by a stranger who calls himself Lassiter, since he has met Sarah's brother. Lassiter frightens Martin with his knowledge of his former friend Frank, who is still alive and looking for revenge. For a reward, however, he would calm him down.
Martin sends his son and his best man to ask Frank, but that fails. Lassiter still has a letter up his sleeve that contains Frank's whereabouts. Martin is now getting involved in the trade. In the cat-and-mouse game that follows, only Lassiter keeps track. He arranges it so that the two former friends turn off each other and he can get the loot himself.
