100 Carols for Choirs ( hundreds of Christmas and hymns for choirs ) is a collection of Carols , by David Willcocks and John Rutter at the Oxford University Press was published. Many of the works it contains are an integral part of the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols at King's College Chapel , Cambridge , a traditional service that takes place every Christmas Eve and is broadcast on the BBC .

The collection contains choral pieces for Advent , Christmas , Epiphany and Easter . The focus is on Christmas carols , both spiritual and secular. The selection ranges from old Latin Christmas carols ( Quem pastores laudavere ) to spiritual songs ( It came upon a midnight clear ) and also includes variations on Jingle bells and Deck the hall .

It consists of one to polyphonic movements. Most of the movements are for four-part mixed choir (SATB), some movements are a cappella , many with organ or piano accompaniment .

The order of service for the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols is attached .

The collection is a selection of 74 pieces from the five-volume Carols for Choirs collection, expanded by 26 pieces . It was first published in 1987, and the 28th edition was published in 2011 (Twenty-eighth impression).
