Representation and stereochemistry
3,4-dichloro-1-butene can be obtained by chlorination of 1,3-butadiene and subsequent isomerization . This reaction sequence produces racemic 3,4-dichloro-1-butene, i.e. a 1: 1 mixture of
- ( R ) -3,4-dichloro-1-butene and
- ( S ) -3,4-dichloro-1-butene.

use
3,4-dichloro-1-butene is used as an intermediate in syntheses (for example chloroprene ).
