311 (pronounced "Three Eleven") is a crossover band from Omaha , Nebraska , which combines punk with reggae , hip-hop , rock and ska . It was founded in 1988 . The line-up has remained unchanged to this day.

Career

In 1997 the rumor went through the media that 311 stands for Ku Klux Klan , since the K is the eleventh letter in the alphabet and thus “3K” stands for “KKK”, i.e. Ku Klux Klan. However, the band denied any connection between their band name and the racist secret society and publicly declared its true meaning: It came from the number of a summons to the Omaha police for indecent behavior in public.

Her biggest success so far was her album 311 (also known as The Blue Album ), which was released in 1996 and went triple platinum .

After the appearance of Don't Tread on Me in 2005, there was a longer break. In June 2009 her eighth album Uplifter , which had been produced by Bob Rock , was released. It rose to number 3 in the US charts, making it the band's best-placed album to date.

In 2011 the album Universal Pulse was released and in 2014 the successor Stereolithic .

A total of 8.5 million records were sold in the United States from 1990 to 2011.

On June 23, 2017 the album "Mosaic" was released, which contains 17 tracks and on which there is a mixture of the older, for 311 heavier reggae-influenced rock sounds with the two-part harmony vocals alternating with rap passages, im Alternation with radio-compatible modern pop songs to be heard.
