Italian peninsula
- After the Sidicins were annexed to the Samnites , Rome formed an alliance with Capua . This is the reason for the First Samnite War (343–341 BC ).
- Archidamos III. , King of Sparta, follows a call for help from Sparta's daughter colony Taranto , which is threatened by attacks by the Lucanians and Messapians . However, the following campaigns are not very successful.
Greece
- Conflict over Kardia on the Chersonese . The city is allied with Philip II of Macedonia ; Nevertheless, Athens sends settlers ( clergy ) to Kardia to secure the peninsula, which lies on the grain route to the Black Sea, which is vital for Athens . Philip takes this as an opportunity to intervene; a little later he controls all of Thrace .
- The city of Knossos on Crete allies itself with Macedonia; then Sparta sends troops against the city.
- In Eretria on Evia, the pro-Macedonian party is gaining the upper hand.

- Late 343: Persian troops invade Egypt ; next year they succeed in defeating Nectanebo II , the last Egyptian king from a local dynasty.
