- June: Battle of the Krimisos ( Western Sicily ): Syracuse 's victory under Timoleon over Carthage .
- An uprising in the Latin League of Cities against Rome triggers the Latin War . Rome is allied with the Samnites , the Latins with the Sidicins and the Greek Campania . Rome appoints L. Papirius Crassus as dictator and declares the property of the Latins to be confiscated. Victory of the Romans over the Latins at Veseris and at Sinuessa.
- Greek colonists found Antipolis (Antibes) near Nikaia (Nice).
Eastern Mediterranean
- Philip II of Macedonia wins the island of Thasos . He also besieged both Perinthus and Byzantion .
- For the duration of a campaign, Philip II entrusts 16-year-old Alexander with the business of government in Macedonia. He himself moves east to conquer Perinth, allied with Athens , which is an ideal starting point to attack the Greek port of Byzantium , which is further east and through which Athens receives vital grain deliveries from the Crimea . But because Athens and Byzantium send warships with auxiliary troops to Perinth, the siege fails .
- The increasingly anti-Macedonian mood in Greece in view of the attacks of Philip II used Athens to found a Hellenic League directed against him.
- Rhodes is from the Achaemenid ruler Artaxerxes III. conquered and thereby Persian .
