The Numbered Islands (literally: "Numbered Islands") are a small group of islands in the Indian Ocean 72 km from the western Australian coastal town of Geraldton . They belong to the Pelsaert Islands , the southernmost group in the Houtman-Abrolhos archipelago .
The group consists of eight small and flat islands, which are located in the west of the approximately 200 km² large coral reef Half Moon Reef , about 10 km northwest of Pelsaert Island , the main island of the Pelsaert Islands. Except for the three southernmost islands (Sweet Island, Davis Island and Sid Liddon Island) the official island name consists of only one digit followed by the word Island , e.g. B. 1 Iceland.
Sid Liddon Island was originally 6 Island (Six Island) but was renamed in honor of a lobster fisherman who was killed in a car accident on mainland Australia.
