The AB Flygindustri was a Swedish aircraft manufacturer based in Limhamn near Malmö . The company founded by Hugo Junkers in 1924 produced and improved designs for the Junkers factories, which were banned in Germany due to the provisions of the Versailles Treaty . After the contract was terminated by the Third Reich, production ceased in June 1935.

history

The brothers Carl and Florian Forman founded the airline AB Aerotransport in 1924 , for which the use of Junkers aircraft was intended. Hugo Junkers then decided to set up a subsidiary in Sweden to which the restrictions applicable in Germany did not apply. For legal reasons, he was only allowed to take a 50 percent stake in the company, but he controlled another 32 percent through Swedish business partners. The Forman brothers bought the rest of the company. A former shipyard in Limhamn served as the production facility.

The aircraft were mainly manufactured at the main plant in Dessau. Some of them were then transferred to Malmö and retrofitted with more powerful engines or other equipment banned in Germany. In some cases only the components were manufactured in Germany and the final assembly in Sweden. From here the planes were sold worldwide. Some civil models were then used in Germany with foreign registration.

After military aircraft construction was resumed in Germany, the company lost its intended purpose. Production was stopped in June 1935.
