The Junkers A 20 was a two-seat multi - purpose aircraft made by Junkers Flugzeugwerk AG in the 1920s. The 43 machines produced in Dessau were designed as single - engine low - wing aircraft and were used as post, school , courier, sports and research aircraft . Many planes went abroad, some of which served as military reconnaissance aircraft .

history

The A 20 was built on the basis of the J 11 seaplane from 1918. The first flight was on April 6, 1923. Like the J 11, the prototype had floats and a slightly smaller wingspan than that of the series aircraft of 15.27 m. Series production began in 1924. In Germany, several machines were used by Lufthansa and the German Aviation School. Two A 20s flew at the Secret Aviation School in Lipetsk, Russia .

construction

The A 20 was designed as a cantilever low wing all-metal aircraft . There was space for a pilot and a passenger on two open seats . The rigid tail wheel chassis could be exchanged for a float or snow skid frame.

The machine was equipped with a 118 kW Mercedes D IIIa or a BMW IIIa with 136 kW. When new engines became available, some A 20 were upgraded to A 25 .
