development
Production began in 1923 with parts supplied from Germany and ended after 20 machines. Later, another 20 float version aircraft and some with wheeled undercarriages were procured from Germany. The machines equipped with floats were delivered to the naval war fleet of the USSR, essentially probably to the Baltic and Black Sea fleets and were flown until 1930, after which some were taken over by the polar air fleet and used until 1933. Due to its robust construction, this type was also used to supply the Novaya Zemlya polar station on eleven flights in September 1924. The aviator Tschuchnowski was the first pilot in the Soviet Union to fly over the Arctic. A Ju 20 was equipped with a Junkers L-5 engine by Wadim Schawrow in 1925 and used as a Ju 35. Other aircraft were converted in this way in Fili.
Some copies were sold to Spain and Turkey.
