history

Today's Associazione Calcio Cuneo 1905 was founded in the year mentioned as Unione Sportiva Alta Italia in Cuneo . The city with nowadays almost 56,000 inhabitants is located in the Piedmont region and is the capital of the province of Cuneo . The US Alta Italia took part in gaming for the first time in 1920, but only on a regional level. In 1925 he was promoted to the Terza Divisione for the first time, and two years later even to the Seconda Divisione. Also in 1927 the name was changed again and from then on it was named Polisportiva La Fedelissima Cuneese . More years of gaming followed in the Seconda Divisione Piemontese, from 1930 as Gruppo Sportivo Dopolavoro Cuneo Sportiva .

In 1938 Gruppo Sportivo Dopolavoro Cuneo Sportiva managed the first-time promotion to the Serie C . In the same summer, the club changed its name again and was then called Associazione Calcio Cuneo . After relegation was successful as a climber with twelfth place, AC Cuneo established itself in Serie C and played there until the World War II game break from 1943 to 1945. As Cuneo Sportiva they played the qualifying tournament for Serie B in 1945/46 , but failed there Twelfth place in the promotion for the second highest Italian division in the 1946/47 season. Instead, Cuneo went to Serie C that season and was fourth in the northern group. In the following year, however, as ninth in the northern group, relegation to the Promozione had to be accepted, whereupon Cuneo disappeared for decades from the upper ranges of Italian football.

Between 1964 and 1971 and between 1975 and 1978, AC Cuneo played in Serie D and only just missed the return to third division during this time in the 1965/66 season as third. After 1978, however, more years of lower class football followed. From 1989 to 1992 AC Cuneo was found for three seasons in the C2 series , where decent placements were achieved in the first two seasons as eighth and seventh, but relegation followed in the third year.

In 1998, the club took the name, which is still valid today, Associazione Calcio Cuneo 1905 , while playing in the fifth-rate Campionato Nazionale Dilettanti. As the first of the Girone A of the D series in 2004/05, the return to the C2 series succeeded, but where they could not hold out in the long term and were relegated three years later. As champions of Serie D 2010/11 - the final for Serie D Scudetto was won 1-0 against long-time first division club ASD Perugia Calcio - Cuneo returned to the fourth division, which has now been renamed Lega Pro Seconda Divisione. Just one year later, Girone A succeeded as third in the Lega Pro Seconda Divisione and after winning playoff games against AC Rimini 1912 and Virtus Entella, the direct march through to the Lega Pro Prima Divisione , Italy's third-highest division at that time. This was the first time since 1948 that AC Cuneo played in third class again. There you got down immediately. However, AC Cuneo was able to achieve promotion to Lega Pro in 1905 as champions of Girone A of Serie D in 2014/15 , which has been the third highest division in Italian football since a league reform in 2014.
