The Associazione Sportiva Pro Piacenza 1919 srl is an Italian football club from Piacenza . The club was founded in 1919 and plays its home games in the Stadio Leonardo Garilli , which can seat 21,700 spectators. AS Pro Piacenza has never played first or second class and is currently in Serie C , the third highest division in Italy .

history

The Associazione Sportiva Pro Piacenza 1919 srl was founded in 1919 as a merger of two associations based in Piacenza . These were called Ausonia and Bandiera and have so far played on a regional level. AS Pro Piacenza was founded in the same year as local rival Piacenza Calcio in 1919 . This also emerged from a merger of some other, smaller clubs from Piacenza. In the following decades, however, both clubs took different paths. While Piacenza Calcio was able to establish itself in the upper professional leagues and even played first-class between 1995 and 2000 and again between 2001 and 2003, Pro Piacenza did not get beyond provincial amateur football for many decades.

After decades of sub-class football with a lot of name changes, Pro Piacenza achieved an upswing just as Piacenza Calcio plunged into its biggest crisis to date. In 2012, the local rival had to file for bankruptcy and, after the re-establishment, start over in the then sixth class Eccellenza . In the same year, Pro Piacenza succeeded for the first time in the club's history to rise to Serie D as the fifth-highest division in Italy. There you could get first place in Girone B straight away and qualify for the newly founded Lega Pro . Pro Piacenza benefited from the merger of Lega Pro Prima Divisione and Lega Pro Seconda Divisione to Lega Pro, as the club advanced from the fifth to the third division.

In that Lega Pro, AS Pro Piacenza could only just hold out for two years. In both 2014/15 and 2015/16 relegation only succeeded after successful playout games against FC Forlì and UC AlbinoLeffe . In their third third division year, in which Piacenza Calcio was promoted to the third division again, AS Pro Piacenza was able to secure relegation with eleventh place in Girone A.

In the 2018/19 season, the club ran into financial difficulties. He could no longer raise the financial guarantees required for Serie C and no longer pay his professional players, who then went on a strike that lasted for weeks. After the club started the game against AC Cuneo on February 17, 2019 with only seven teenagers and lost 0:20, the Italian football association FIGC excluded them from Serie C.
