The general sports club Nürnberg Pfeil Phönix is a sports club from Nuremberg . In addition to soccer , handball , bowling , skateboarding and tennis are also on offer.

The footballers of the previous club ASV Nürnberg played in the first-class Gauliga Bayern from 1933 to 1937 and from 1938 to 1945 , in the latter years as WKG BSG Neumayer and VfL Nürnberg . The previous club, FC Pfeil-Viktoria , was part of a syndicate in the Gauliga season of 1944/45, which was canceled prematurely.

history

The ASN Pfeil merged with the Sportbund Phönix in 2005 and has been playing as ASN Pfeil Phönix since the 2005/2006 season . In the 2005/2006 season, in which the club's centenary was celebrated, the first team managed to move up from the A-class to the district class, in which they placed in the midfield in 2006/2007. In the following 2007/2008 season, the second ascent was easily achieved within a short time.

The ASN Pfeil Nürnberg, in turn, was created on September 21, 1946 through a merger of the clubs FC Pfeil-Viktoria Nürnberg and VfL Nürnberg (formerly ASN Nürnberg ). The football department played until 1952 (with the exception of the 1948/49 season) in the first second-class and from 1950 third-class amateur league Bavaria and Northern Bavaria.

Since then, the club from the Ziegelstein district of Nuremberg has not played higher-class football and has therefore not been able to build on the successful times of its predecessor clubs.

Predecessor clubs

ASN Nuremberg

FV Nürnberg joins the ASN

The roots of the football department of the ASN lie in FC Vorwärts Nürnberg , which was founded in 1902 and which in 1911 integrated 1. FC Viktoria 1909 Nürnberg into its ranks. On June 5, 1911, FC Sportfreunde Nürnberg split from FC Vorwärts . After a merger in April 1920 with the Sandreuth Ball Game Club in Nuremberg , Sportfreunde joined the TV 1873 Steinbühl-Gibitzenhof in the same year . Soon afterwards, however, the football department became independent again as Nürnberger FV and in 1922 was able to achieve second place in the first-class Northern Bavarian regional league (division 1) behind 1. FC Nürnberg. In the following years the FV was able to assert itself in the district and district league, before joining the General Sports Club of Nuremberg , which had been founded a year earlier, on July 1, 1925 .

Foundation of the ASN Nuremberg and Gauliga qualification

The General Sports Club Nuremberg , ASN for short , called the Assen , belonged in the district and Gauliga Bayern , like the Nuremberg FV before, consistently to the competition of the dominant clubs 1. FC Nürnberg , SpVgg Fürth or FC Bayern Munich .

On June 13, 1924, the cloth merchant Carl Maximilian Stark founded the association. His plan was to establish a professional football club modeled on the clubs in Vienna , Prague and Budapest . However, 1. FC Nürnberg rejected this request, which is why Stark created his own club. The DFB was against professional clubs, in February 1925 even games against professional teams were banned.

By joining the Nuremberg FV on July 1, 1925, Stark succeeded in at least establishing a second major club in Nuremberg alongside the club. The ASN established itself thanks to particularly good youth work. From 1925 to 1927, the youth was three times in a row South German champions. Right winger Karl Scherm , midfielder Hans Geiger and goalkeeper Ludwig Wenz even became DFB national players.

In 1927 the General Sports Club went bankrupt, but was re-established on February 1, 1928 as the General Sports Club 1928 Nuremberg . In 1930, with a third place in the Northern Bavarian regional league, he even qualified for the "consolation round" (qualification of the second and third for the finals of the South German football championship). From 1925 to 1937, the club's footballers were consistently first class, including from 1933 as a member of the Gauliga Bayern.

Competition community of the BSG Neumeyer

After relegation, the company sports group (WKG BSG) Neumeyer Nürnberg, formed in April 1937, was able to gain direct resurgence and belonged to the Gauliga Bayern again until the league reform in 1942. In 1939 the club even led the table of the Gauliga for a time and was placed fourth even before 1. FC Nürnberg and SpVgg Fürth. The seasons 1938/39 and 1939/40 were among the most successful seasons of the club with the two fourth places in the final accounts of the Gauliga. They were also successful in the Tschammer Cup in 1939 and made it into the 4th main round. Previously, the club had been able to defeat Dresdner SC 2-1, among others .

Association for physical exercises Nuremberg

In 1942, the WKG BSG Neumeyer renamed itself to Verein für Leibesübungen Nürnberg , which is a direct successor to ASN Nürnberg. VfL continued to play in the Gauliga Bayern, which was divided due to the war, in the Northern Bavaria group and even finished third in 1944. Today's VfL Nürnberg emerged from a merger in 1962 and has nothing to do with the local club.

The Ballspielclub Sandreuth Nürnberg, in turn, is also a merger club that was formed in 1911 from FC 07 Sandreuth and the Ballspielclub Nürnberg . The latter was only formed in 1909 through the union of FC Wacker and FC Bayern Nürnberg . FC Wacker was founded on August 22, 1906 after the split from TV 1846 Nürnberg, initially under the name SpVgg Nürnberg .

FC Pfeil-Viktoria Nuremberg

In March 1905, FC Normannia Nürnberg was founded , which was renamed FC Pfeil Nürnberg that same summer . In 1911 it was joined to the TV 1863 Tafelhof and renamed the Pfeil football club in the Turnverein 1863 Tafelhof. At that time, the club had belonged to the first-class Eastern District League since 1910. In the last year of operations in 1914, they achieved an excellent third place, tied with second place in the table, 1. FC Nürnberg and behind SpVgg Fürth. After the First World War , the club could only briefly return to the first class until it was relegated from the district league in 1922 . From then on, FC Pfeil experienced a similarly eventful history of mergers, splits and connections as the ASN Nürnberg . In 1918 the company was named FC Pfeil / SC Sandow Nürnberg , and from 1928 as SV Pfeil Schweinau . In 1938 the merger with SC Viktoria Nürnberg to FC Pfeil-Viktoria Nürnberg finally took place . During the Second World War , Pfeil-Viktoria formed a war syndicate with Wacker Nürnberg , who played in the Gauliga in the 1944/45 season , which was broken off prematurely .

ASN racetrack

The various previous clubs played from 1920 to 1923 first on the Werderau , then from 1923 to 1933 on the Bayreuther- / Ziegelsteinstraße football field . In 1933, matches were started in the Herrnhüttestraße stadium , which in 1941 had a capacity of 12,000 spectators.

From 1945 on, the ASN cycling track, built in 1925, became home in Ziegelstein. Today it offers space for 4,000 spectators. The concrete racetrack, built in 1949, was the venue for numerous important track cycling competitions until the end of the 1960s.

The record number of spectators in the cycling track dates back to 1928, when the previous user ASV Nürnberg received SpVgg Fürth in front of 15,000 spectators and lost 4-1. Against the Fürth neighbors, the opening took place on August 2, 1925. ASV Nürnberg lost here too, this time 2: 3.
