background

Marlon Bundo, Pence family pet

A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo is a parody of the children's book Marlon Bundo's A Day in the Life of the Vice President , which was published only one day later , written by Charlotte and illustrated by Karen Pence , daughter and wife of American Vice President Mike Pence . Marlon Bundo is the Pence family's pet rabbit, who also plays a political role with its “own” social media accounts.

Jill Twiss, the creator of the picture book , is one of the authors of the American satirical show Last Week Tonight , hosted by John Oliver . Oliver presented the book on his March 18, 2018 broadcast at the end of a twenty-minute critical contribution about the arch-conservative politician Mike Pence. The show dealt with Pence's homophobic attitudes, in particular his rejection of same-sex marriage and ties to the organization Focus on the Family , which advocates " conversion therapy ". The book by Charlotte and Karen Pence was also promoted at a Focus on the Family event. The Süddeutsche Zeitung described A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo as an "open swipe" at pence. Nevertheless, John Oliver sees the book as “ a real book for children” .

There was also an audiobook abstract, spoken by Jim Parsons , Jesse Tyler Ferguson , Jeff Garlin , Ellie Kemper , John Lithgow , Jack McBrayer and RuPaul .

The economic gain from the sale of the book will go to two non-profit organizations , Aidshilfe AIDS United and the Trevor Project , which supports LGBTQ youth at risk .
