Abū Ishāq Ibrāhīm II. Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn al-Aghlab ibn Ibrāhīm ibn al-Aghlab Arabic أحمد بن محمد بن الأغلب بن إبراهيم بن الأغلب, أبو إسحاق, DMG Aḥmad b. Muḥammad b. al-Alab b. Ibrāhīm b. Al-Aġlab, Abū Isḥāq (born June 27, 850 , † October 23, 902 in Cosenza ) was the ninth emir of the Aghlabids in Ifrīqiya and ruled from 875 to 902.

Life

Abū Ishāq Ibrāhīm II took over the rule from his brother Abu l-Gharaniq Muhammad II (864-875). Even if the Aghlabid Empire suffered considerable population losses due to the plague (874–875), it was initially still prosperous. So Ibrāhīm II. B. 876 near Kairouan with Raqqada build a new residence and tried to further promote agriculture by expanding the irrigation systems. He also eliminated the tax lease and collected the taxes through the administration.

Nevertheless, the decline of the dynasty began under Ibrāhīm II. In Sicily , Syracuse was conquered in 878 , but Byzantium drove the Muslims from Bari and Taranto in Apulia after a sea victory over the Aghlabids . Also in 882 an attack by the Tulunids from Egypt had to be repulsed and several Berber uprisings against the tyrannical rule of Ibrāhm II had to be suppressed. Since 893 the mission began Ismailis under Abu al-'Abdallāh Schī'ī in Kutāmaberbern in Algeria . These were later to overthrow the Aghlabids and pave the way for the Fatimids to Ifriqiya.

When the unrest among the population against the tyrannical rule of Ibrahim II increased, he was forced to abdicate in 902 by his son Abu l-Abbas Abdallah II (902-903). Ibrāhīm II withdrew to Sicily to take up the fight against Byzantium. In an attack on Calabria he died on October 23, 902 near Cosenza of the Ruhr .
