Abdelhadi Boutaleb

Abdelhadi Boutaleb ( Arabic عبد الهادي بوطالب, DMG ʿAbd al-Hādī Būṭālib ; * December 23, 1923 in Fez ; † December 16, 2009 in Rabat ) was a Moroccan diplomat and politician .

biography

After attending school he began studying at the oldest university in the world, the University of al-Qarawīyīn , which he graduated in 1943 (Lauréat). After graduation, on December 10, 1943, he was one of the founders of the Independence Party ( Istiqlal ), the most important and oldest party in Morocco. As their representative, he took part in 1951 as a member of the delegation at the United Nations Conference in the Palais de Chaillot in Paris .

In 1955 he was head of the delegation in the negotiations on the sovereignty of Morocco and the return of King Mohammed V in Aix-les-Bains . After independence, he was appointed Minister of Labor and Social Affairs in 1955, but left the government the following year. In 1959 he was alongside Mehdi Ben Barka founder of the Union Nationale des Forces Populaires (UNFP), which did not consider the Istiqlal's political goals to be radical enough.

After King Hassan II's accession to the throne , he was appointed ambassador to Damascus in 1961 and was then Minister for Information, Youth and Sport, Minister for the Sahara and Mauritania , Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister, Government Spokesman, Minister in the following years during his reign for parliamentary affairs, ministers of justice, ministers for national education, again ministers of information and finally ministers of state in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Boutaleb thus became one of the king's closest advisers.

In 1970 he was elected President of Parliament. He then was ambassador to the USA from 1974 to 1976 and was also accredited as such in Mexico .

After he was elected President of the International Islamic Organization for Education, Science and Culture (ISESCO) in 1982 , he also became a member of the Royal Academies of Jordan and Morocco. In November 1983 he also became vice-president of the International Commission for the Protection of the Islamic Fatherland of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OCI).

Boutaleb was also professor of constitutional law and political science at Mohammed V University in Rabat and Hassan II Ain Chok University in Casablanca .

He was one of the senior fellows of the Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought (Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought), Jordan .

Awards

Abdelhadi Boutaleb has received several awards, including the Great Order of Merit of the Kingdom of Morocco , the Prize for Culture and Education of Jordan and the Prize for Culture and Education of ISESCO. In 2002 he was honored by King Abdullah II with the Medal of Independence, the highest civil honor in Jordan . In 2006 King Mohammed VI awarded him . the Grand Cross of the order "Wissam Al Arch".
