from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In 1984, Muslims and Christians in Marl came together to form the Christian-Islamic Working Group Marl ( CIAG Marl ) to promote international understanding . Coordinated by a group of speakers, CIAG Marl works as a non-governmental organization for intercultural and interreligious community work . The CIAG Marl is networked with interested parties and organizations from the environment of the three monotheistic religions, e. B. through their membership in the coordination council of the Christian-Islamic dialogue .

Goals and development

The organization has three goals:

  • the support of encounters between the religious communities and their members;
  • the promotion of intercultural learning and the development of projects that promote the tolerant coexistence of schoolchildren of different religious origins in educational institutions in the region;
  • Organization of events that promote mutual respect, international understanding and peace in the world.

The Christian-Islamic Working Group organized the Festival Music of Jews , Christians and Muslims from 1988–1995 . In search of old forms and common roots , together with the city, DITIB , the Jewish Museum Westphalia in Dorsten and the Benedictine Abbey Münsterschwarzach with Godehard Joppich . There were the topics:

  • Gregorian chant . The music of the liturgy of the early Middle Ages. 1988
  • The music of the Torah and the Prophets. Sacred music of the synagogue. 1988
  • Chants of the early Russian Orthodox Church. 1992
  • Islam: Mystical Chants & Quran Recitation. 1993
  • Degree: Early music by the Jews, Christians and Muslims. 1995. Patron: Yehudi Menuhin

Together with the city of Marl and all Marl schools, the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is regularly organized around March 21st, following the UN appeal.

An Abraham festival has been held every year in Marl since autumn 2001 , in cooperation with the churches and mosques, the Recklinghausen Jewish Community , the Marl Integration Council and the Marl political community. This festival is promoted by Christian denominations, namely the diocese of Münster and the Evangelical Church of Westphalia , the Islamic DITIB in Cologne, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the trade union for education and science GEW Marl. Here, in lectures, exhibitions and other things, the commonalities of the three Abrahamic world religions for regional coexistence are made clear, with programs for children, young people, schools and adults, and also with celebrations together with all generations.

In addition, the CIAG project is involved in other initiatives in the city of Marl and by Marl schools in networking district work, for example with other partners in Kunterbuntes Chamäleon (KBC) as an interface between school and leisure. There are three independent women's groups at CIAG Marl. a. Discuss issues of women's rights in religions.

At the invitation of CIAG Marl, Johannes Rau visited the Fatih Mosque in Marl on the occasion of the 1st Abraham Festival at the end of 2001; it was the first visit by a Federal President to an Islamic place of worship in Germany. On the initiative of CIAG Marl, the first "Abraham tree" was planted in September 2007 near the town hall of Marl, a Lebanon cedar . This tree, which is centuries old, is a symbol of peace.

The similarities developed in the CIAG resulted in a conversation with contemporary witnesses of Jewish origin in the local mosque :

Supraregional importance

The CIAG Marl is

The festival of Abraham

The CIAG, together with its regional partners, the local churches, the Fatih Mosque Marl and the Jewish community of Recklinghausen district, with the support of the city of Marl and the schools, has been holding an Abrahamic Festival every year in autumn and early winter since 2001 to highlight the common ground for to highlight the public and to promote the networking of religions, and thus also to get to know each other. For this purpose, internationally known people are won as speakers, e.g. B. for 2010: Paul Oestreicher . The city of Marl accentuates its interest in these interreligious contacts by organizing a "banquet" in the town hall as a final event.

Awards

The "Evangelical Church of Westphalia" carried out a so-called consultation for the first time in 1992 about Christians and Muslims meeting for the entire regional church in Marl, whereby the CIAG was the local sponsor of the event.

On March 17, 1994, CIAG Marl received the “Golden Hammer” from the State Youth Association of North Rhine-Westphalia and on March 5, 1997, a Turkish thank you plaque for civil society activity. The latter was awarded by the then consul general of Turkey in Münster , Günes Altan, with the words:

“The Christian-Islamic cooperation in Marl takes place in religious, social, cultural and educational contexts. That arouses sympathy, sets standards and encourages other people elsewhere. "

The Bremen Peace Prize listed CIAG Marl 2007 as one of 25 best practice examples, listed in the category “Reports from Peace Work: Germany”. The laudators were particularly impressed by joint public prayers and the expansion of the originally Christian-Islamic dialogue into a “trialogue” with the inclusion of Jewish people through the festival of Abraham.
