description

Vegetative characteristics

Acis ionica is a perennial, onion- forming geophytic plant whose vegetation period lasts from late summer to spring. It grows to a height of 25 centimeters.

The few leaves appear in autumn immediately after or towards the end of the flowering period in October and move in again in spring. They are semi-upright and very thin and grass-like and become about 12–22 cm long. They have two leaf sheaths .

Generative characteristics

The flowers usually sit in twos to fours, sometimes individually or up to six on terminal dold-like inflorescences up to 15 cm long and appear from August to October. They are white and six tepals composed (tepals). The three outer tepals have pointed ends and a clearly visible central nerve , the inner ones are wider and slightly or not at all pointed. There are six stamens with short stamens and long anthers. The stalked flowers are about 1.5 cm tall and have a 2-4 cm long stem. There is a six-lobed disc .

The under constant ovary with fädigem stylus develops into a capsule fruit , black seeds contains.

The bulbs are light brown, pointed and sit 5 cm deep in the ground. They form daughter bulbs and thus reproduce quite strongly vegetatively .

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 16.

Occurrence

Acis ionica is common on the Ionian Islands off the west coast of Greece . However, they can also be found on mainland Europe as far as south-west Albania . It prefers open, warm, stony-loamy locations , e.g. B. on dry grass on sun-exposed slopes, but can also survive in rock crevices.
