Adelasia ed Aleramo is an opera (original name: "melodramma serio") in two acts in Italian by the Bavarian composer Johann Simon Mayr . The libretto is by Luigi Romanelli . The premiere took place during the carnival season on December 26, 1806 at La Scala in Milan .

action

The action takes place in the city of Alba Pompeja and its surroundings.

Princess Adelasia, the daughter of Emperor Ottones, has fallen in love with Aleramo. Since Ottone is against the improper connection, the couple must flee. Far away, they start families, modest livelihoods, and adopt new identities. When Ottone camps in this area years later on a campaign against the Saracens, they see each other again. However, the hope of reuniting the family seems hopeless, despite the efforts of Adelasia and her mother, Empress Teofania. In the meantime, Rambaldo, Ottones confidante, has made a pact with the enemy, but accuses Aleramo of treason. His calculation is to get Aleramo out of the way first, then to ascend Ottones throne and finally to force Adelasia to marry. She had rejected him years ago and preferred Aleramo to him. The perfidious plan seems to work - until everything turns out differently at the last moment.

Performers of the world premiere

The interpreters of the world premiere were Giacomo David (Ottone), Angela Rotondi (Teofania), Teresa Belloc-Giorgi (Adelasia), Impératrice Sessi (Aleramo), Giovanni Battista Binaghi (Rambaldo), Gaetano Chizzola (Roberto) and Giuseppe Barbieri (Osmano).

In Bavaria, the opera was performed in 1808 in the Munich Court Theater on the occasion of the wedding of the Bavarian Princess Charlotte Auguste to Crown Prince Wilhelm I of Württemberg.
