Adelbert von Deyen (born October 25, 1953 in Süderbrarup , Schleswig-Holstein ; † February 13, 2018 in Steinbergkirche ) was a German musician , composer , painter and graphic artist .

Life

Adelbert von Deyen drew, painted (with oil paints) and made music (violin, trumpet, guitar) as a child. The versatile artist learned the profession of positive retoucher in Flensburg and later completed retraining to become a color lithographer and DTP graphic artist. Von Deyen made his first experiments and experiences with electronic music in the 1970s in sessions with Dieter Schütz in his home studio, before he produced his first solo LP Sternzeit in 1978 . Was the influence of the Berlin School initially heard clearly changed from Deyens music over time through sounds and songs that stylistically to Pink Floyd remember (Eclipse) , to the electronically generated, lyrical pop rock (impressions) . Here he also brought in the lyrics he had sung himself. From 1978 to 1983 von Deyen gave around 50 concerts, exclusively in Germany and mainly in the club scene. Up to twelve synthesizers and keyboards as well as a power capacity of 10,000 watts were required to bring the electronic sound paintings acoustically and visually with light, slides, films (including from the first manned moon landing) and dry ice fog onto the stage.

During this time he worked as a soloist in electronic music on record productions with other musicians. Zabba Lindner from Hamburg played drums, Robbi Hohensee ( Kiel ) and Uwe Johannsen ( Flensburg ) added their guitar solos and Dieter Schütz from Sörup played on various instruments. Dieter Schütz and Adelbert von Deyen had a deep friendship for over 20 years. In 1985 they were together as a guest on the cult radio show Vibrations with Winfrid Trenkler on Westdeutscher Rundfunk Köln . In 1991 the two founded the pop rock trio Deja Vue together with the singer Ulla Witt . There were some songs, some of them melancholy. The sudden death of Dieter Schütz in September 1991 was the reason for von Deyen to end his musical career and devote himself entirely to painting. It was not until 2004 that Ulla Witt and Adelbert von Deyen were able to bring themselves to release Deja Vue's sound recordings on CD under the title Nightflight .

For many years, von Deyen also worked as a retoucher, lithographer and DTP graphic artist, creating the basis for his current work as an artist, which he has been doing professionally since 1996. In the same year he and his partner Nadja Boddin built a residential and studio house in Steinbergkirche on the Baltic Sea . Von Deyen is now one of the best-known regional painters in the Schleswig-Flensburg district , where he has presented over 60 exhibitions so far (as of December 2014). Thematically, he deals mainly with the pictorial representation of the landscape of fishing and the Baltic coast in a realistic style. Since 1994, von Deyen has published a calendar with landscape images every year. In 2003 his autobiography appeared in connection with an extensive, printed retrospective. The oeuvre of the painter Adelbert von Deyen now includes around 600 oil paintings, watercolors, pastels and drawings, the vast majority of which are in public and private ownership.

Since 2006 von Deyen has been playing again, if only on the side and sporadically, and in June of that year he released a new solo album of electronic music with Painted Black after almost 20 years. It's a very personal album, on which he mentally processed another stroke of fate. The music is sometimes full of life and cheerful (reminiscent of Monkey Island ), but on the other hand it is also moody and melancholy. In May 2007 von Deyen released the CD Rosegarden with the help of Henrik Petersen (electric guitar) and Stefanie Kahl (vocals)  - rhythmic, spherical and at the same time powerful electronic rock with a psychedelic influence. The current album, entitled Old Fashioned , was released in September 2009 with five new instrumental pieces by Adelbert von Deyen and five previously unreleased tracks by Dieter Schütz on the occasion of the eighteenth anniversary of his death as a limited first edition of 100 CDs in 24 carat gold.

All LPs and CDs up to and including 1992 have been released on the German Sky label by the music publisher German News in Hamburg. The subsequent publications are self-published productions.
