Adin is a location in Modoc County , California , United States . Under administrative law, it is a census-designated place within the framework of the censuses, but not an independent municipality.

location

Adin is located in the Big Valley in northeastern California on the southern edge of Modoc County and borders south on neighboring Lassen County . Ash Creek flows through the village in a westerly direction. California State Route 299 (CA 299) passes through Adin and crosses northern California from west to east and runs from Arcata on the Pacific coast via Redding to Alturas and Cedarville near the Nevada border . In Adin CA 299 crosses the California State Route 139 , the north-south direction of Tulelake on the border with Oregon to Susanville results in Lassen County.

To the south of the village is Adin Airport with a 900 meter long runway. The nearest town is Alturas, 50 km northeast of Adin as the crow flies .

history

The place was founded by Adin McDowell in 1869 and named after him the following year, 1870. The oldest buildings in the town are the "Adin Community Bible Church" from 1888 and the "Old General Store" from 1906.

population

As part of the 2010 United States Census of the United States, Adin had 272 people as of April 1, 2020. It should be noted here that Adin was first defined as a census-designated place for the 2010 census, so that the figures from the earlier censuses, which were significantly higher (approx. 600 inhabitants), cannot be compared.

The village has a high proportion of inhabitants of German descent: As part of the census in 200, 98 people from around 600 inhabitants in the area around Adin were identified whose origins go back to German immigrants.
