Adolf Himmel

Adolf Himmel (born August 9, 1928 in Moers ; † March 5, 2013 ) was a German author and translator of children's and youth literature .

Life

Adolf Himmel did his doctorate in English and worked on a ship as a language teacher for emigrants and American students on a trip to Europe. He worked for various publishers and the WDR and published several novels and children's books. He was the director of the Goethe Institute in Porto . On September 27, 1993, Adolf Himmel received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon for his efforts to promote cultural exchange between Germany and Portugal .

He was married to Ilse Himmel, who is also a translator of books for children and young people. The couple had lived in Portugal since 1959 . Himmel died of cancer on March 5, 2013 at the age of 84 with his family.
