Adolf J. Schmid (born June 16, 1934 in Bad Rippoldsau ; † September 9, 2011 in Freiburg-Ebnet ) was a German high school teacher and local researcher .

Life and work

Adolf J. Schmid grew up in Bad Rippoldsau and from 1947 attended high school in Rastatt . After graduating from high school, he studied history, Latin and French in Freiburg and, after passing the state examination, started a teaching career. Among other things, he taught at schools in Donaueschingen and Freiburg . In 1974 he was commissioned to set up the district grammar school in Kirchzarten - today the Marie Curie grammar school  ; he ran the school until his retirement in 1996. From 1968 until his death in 2011 he lived with his family in his adopted home Freiburg-Ebnet.

As headmaster he initiated school partnerships in France, England, the USA and Russia. In 1979 he was appointed Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Palmes Académiques by the French Prime Minister Raymond Barre for his services to Franco-German friendship .

From 1973 to 1976 Schmid was chairman of the Baden-Württemberg Philologists' Association . During his term of office, decisive groundwork was set for the reform of the upper level at the grammar schools in Baden-Württemberg .

Regional and local researcher

Since the 1960s, Adolf J. Schmid has dealt with regional and state history topics. He wrote chronicles of his home community Bad Rippoldsau and the neighboring community of Schapbach , which is now associated with it, and later also an extensive chronicle of Freiburg-Ebnet. He wrote numerous texts on a wide variety of regional topics, especially for the Badische Heimat magazine .

In 2009 he was made an honorary citizen of the community of Bad Rippoldsau-Schapbach for his services to the processing of the local history of the upper Wolftal .

He wrote numerous monographs a. a. about Rainer Maria Rilke , Victor von Scheffel , Heinrich Hansjakob , Maximilian Delphinius Berlitz and Marina Zwetajewa , whereby his concern was always to understand the overriding importance in the local or regional context.

From 1998 to 2006 Schmid was President of the Baden Home State Association. An important focus of his work here was the strengthening of the Baden - Alsace neighborhood, which he received from him. In 2006 Schmid was awarded the Staufer Medal of the State of Baden-Württemberg.
