Adolf Voll

Adolf Voll (born May 15, 1881 in Munich ; † March 22, 1965 in Fürstenfeldbruck ) was a German architect , urban planner and designer . He worked in Fürstenfeldbruck from 1907 to 1953 and shaped the cityscape significantly. In addition to his local political activities before and after the era of National Socialism , he was primarily culturally involved and founded several associations, including the Fürstenfeldbrucker Artists' Association .

Life

family

Adolf Voll was born on May 15, 1881 in Munich and had five sisters. His father, Karl Voll, was a decorative painter and ran a shop in downtown Munich.

education and study

Not much is known of Voll's childhood and youth, only his school career is documented. He attended the Luitpold secondary school in Munich from 1894 to 1898 and completed his military service as a one-year volunteer from October 1901 to September 1902 . First he studied at the building trade school in Stuttgart and then in the winter semester 1903/1904 at the Technical University of Stuttgart . Here proposals included Theodor Fischer to his teachers. In the winter semester 1904/1905 he continued his studies at the Technical University of Munich away and heard the lectures on high building construction apprenticeship at Emil von Mecenseffy about interior decoration with Joseph Buhlmann , on Agricultural Baukunde at Fritz Jummerspach and civil architecture at Carl Hocheder .

One can assume that Theodor Fischer in particular had an influence on Voll and made him familiar with reform architecture , its simplicity and simplicity, and the ideas of the garden city movement .

From 1907, Voll worked as a freelance architect in Fürstenfeldbruck. His first known planning contract comes from the same year: the house at what is now Dachauer Strasse 63 for the painter Eugen von Ruckteschell (1850–1928).

In 1908, Voll was granted “citizenship” in Fürstenfeldbruck, and on March 29 of the same year he married the painter Ernestine Josepha Ortlieb, known as Erna. From 1909 to 1910 he built his own house on Emmeringer Strasse.

After initial discussions, Voll was commissioned to plan the new municipal slaughterhouse, which was completed in 1911.

Until the First World War , in which Adolf Voll was doing military service, some artists settled in Fürstenfeldbruck. Including painters like Henrik Moor , who was friends with the Voll family and who portrayed the couple. By building the first country houses and villas along the Amper, the artists created villa colonies. Adolf Voll planned some of these artist villas. In 1930 Voll built the movie theater in Fürstenfeldbruck.

Adolf Voll was a member of the Association of German Architects (BDA), which in 1933/1934 was transferred to the architecture specialist group (also specialist group architects ) of the Reich Chamber of Fine Arts in the course of harmonization . Membership in the chamber was the legal requirement to work independently as an architect during the National Socialist era . Adolf Voll did not join the NSDAP or the newly founded Fürstenfeldbrucker Kunstring , which was based on the national socialist cultural ideals . This led to a decline, but not to a complete absence of private and public contracts.

Adolf Voll was a versatile planner who built both magnificent and representative villas as well as residential buildings for the common population. His area of ​​responsibility also included urban planning and technical construction tasks. Among the "regulars" at his client belonged among other things, the magistrate of the community Fuerstenfeldbruck.

Cultural engagement

Adolf Voll took an active part in the cultural life in Fürstenfeldbruck. He founded the local tourist office , which should promote tourism . The aim was also to give the city a cultural boost and to organize art exhibitions. Voll was also chairman of the Fürstenfeldbrucker Beautification Association .

In 1924, Adolf Voll was involved in founding the Fürstenfeldbruck artists' association. His friend, the painter Max Landschreiber (1880–1961), became the first director. They organized a few sales exhibitions and social celebrations in Fürstenfeldbruck until the national socialists were brought into line in 1933.

Political commitment

Politically, Adolf Voll was a member of the Center Party from 1920 to 1929 and was the second mayor of Fürstenfeldbruck. He did not join the NSDAP and withdrew from local politics and public life. During the Second World War he was not called up for military service. After the war he was a member of the CSU 1946 to 1948 in the City Council of Furstenfeldbruck, where he was as a cultural referent operates.

Adolf Voll died with his family on March 22, 1965 in Fürstenfeldbruck as a result of cancer .
