Advanced Practice Nursing

The Advanced Practice Nursing , also called Advanced Nursing Practice, is an academic further qualification for members of the nursing professions . As Advanced Practice Nurses , they are able to work both practically and scientifically in a special field of patient care or health prevention and to take on management functions.

When Advanced Practice Nursing (APN) is a globally established care concept that deepens the competence of the health and medical care and expands the related tasks and applications. The APN aims in particular to ensure that the Advanced Practice Nurses are active in specialized fields of care or dedicate themselves to certain patient groups, for example the care of patients with chronic wounds or in the rehabilitation area . In autumn 2018, the International Council of Nurses advocated using the term Advanced Practice Nursing uniformly for the deployment and field of activity of appropriately qualified nursing staff .

A joint position paper by the associations DBFK (Germany), ÖGKV (Austria) and SBK (Switzerland) defined a joint catalog of requirements and competencies for this job description in 2013, which has since been referred to as the APN care expert in German-speaking countries . Study opportunities in Advanced Practice Nursing (APN) are offered in German-speaking countries both as a Bachelor and Master degree .

An appropriate professional qualification is required for participation in the course. The Advances Practice Nursing course imparts knowledge in case , process and care management as well as the basics of economics and an insight into European social systems.
