The company ARM Limited (formerly Advanced RISC Machines Ltd. ) is a the Japanese Softbank belonging provider of IP solutions in the field of microprocessors . It is the developer of the ARM architecture , which is built under license and is used in most smartphones and tablet computers and is also very widespread in the area of embedded systems .
Products
ARM develops the design of RISC processors, the production of which is carried out by the licensees , including AMD , Apple , Atmel , Freescale , HiSilicon , IBM , Infineon , Intel , Mediatek , Nvidia , NXP , Qualcomm , Renesas , Samsung , Texas Instruments , Toshiba and 3Com belong.

history
Advanced RISC Machines Ltd. was created in 1989 with the outsourcing of the processor division from the Acorn company . Acorn kept a 43% stake in the new company, Apple held a further 43%, 7% VLSI Technology (until then the sole producer of the ARM chipset and then the first ARM licensee) and the remaining 7% Nippon Investment and Finance .
With the separation of the processor division from the parent company, the ARM architecture developed by the company was renamed from Acorn RISC Machines to Advanced RISC Machines .
In 2004, the US competitor Artisan Components was taken over for 913 million US dollars. In 2005 the German-American company Keil Software , a manufacturer of IDEs for embedded systems, was taken over .
In 2016 - one month after the UK's Brexit vote - Japanese telecom group Softbank announced its intention to buy ARM for around £ 23.4 billion (€ 27.95 billion). The acquisition was completed in September 2016. ARM should remain as an independent company and be increased in terms of personnel.
