Affonso José Santos

Affonso José Santos (born July 13, 1940 in Rio de Janeiro ) is a former Brazilian diplomat .

Life

Affonso José Santos is a son of Catharina Anna Le Gall Santos and Mário Santos and brother of Mário Augusto Santos . After studying law at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro , he completed the Curso Preparatório à Carreira Diplomática of the Rio Branco Institute on March 25, 1968, and on February 3, 1970 he was appointed Secretary of the Third Class. He was assigned to the United Nations Division as an assistant for two days. On May 5, 1971 he graduated from the Curso de Práctica Diplomática e Consular of the Rio Branco Institute and on April 25, 1973 was appointed Secretary of the Second Class. In the same year he headed the Brazilian delegation to the ad hoc meeting on fertilizers of the FAO in Rome, where he was accepted as legation secretary from September 15, 1973 and was awarded the Italian Order of Merit on November 17, 1973 .

From August 2, 1974 to 1976, Santos headed the Brazilian delegation to UNIDROIT and on September 21, 1974 at the seventh session of the technical advisor for international agricultural research. On November 22, 1976, he received the exequatur as consul in Sydney and on September 13, 1978, he headed the EXPO BRASIL 1978 pavilion in Sydney. From November 26, 1979 he was assigned to the Western Europe Department as an assistant and on January 22, 1980 he was appointed Secretary of the First Class and on April 25, 1980 he was honored with the Medalha do Mérito Santos-Dumont .

From June 1, 1980, Santos was transferred to Ankara as chargé d' affaires, from where he took over the management of the Brazilian pavilion at the international trade fair in Bucharest on August 9. In the same function he was ordered to Helsinki from October 5, 1982 to 1984 , where he was assigned to the Europe department from May 7, 1983.

From January 25, 1985 Santos belonged to the escort department of the Itamaraty and was assigned to the office of the General Secretary of the Itamaraty from February 20, 1986 and from April 2, 1987 to the Middle East department. From June 19, 1987 to October 1987 he was employed as chargé d'affaires in Lomé and from June 27, 1989 in Bern , where he was appointed Legation Councilor on June 28, 1990. In the same function, he was transferred to Stockholm on December 4, 1992 , where he presented the study Conflitos de Narureza Étnica: O caso dos Estados Bálticos on March 8, 1994 as part of the Curso de Altos Estudios and the Brazilian study on March 30, 1994 Headed the delegation to the Stockholm Convention . From July 18, 1995, Santos was called to Riyadh as Chargé d' affaires, where he was appointed second class envoy on July 14, 1998 and was honored with the Medalha Mérito Tamandaré on October 4, 1998 .

On March 18, 2003, Santos was transferred to Singapore as Chargé d'affaires and on January 14, 2007 to the Consulate General in Los Angeles . Finally, on July 1, 2008, Santos was appointed Ambassador to Brazzaville , where he was accredited from August 2008 to August 11, 2010. Since then he has been Deputy Consul of the Consulate General in Beverly Hills .
