Agano ( Japanese 阿賀野市 , -shi ) is a city in the interior of Niigata Prefecture on Honshū , the main island of Japan .

The city of Agano was founded on April 1, 2004 from the former cities of Yasuda and Suibara , as well as the villages of Kyōgase and Sasagami from the district of Kitakambara .
