Agave filifera subsp. schidigera is a subspecies of the plant Agave filifera from the genus of the Agave ( agave ). An English common name is "Maguey Century Plant".

description

Agave filifera subsp. schidigera forms a short trunk. The individual rosettes are arranged symmetrically. They reach heights of growth of 70 to 100 cm. The variable, thin, flexible, green to bluish leaves are 30 to 50 cm long and 1.5 to 4 cm wide. The leaf margins are brown to white and coarsely fibrous. The brown, variable end mandrel is 0.5 to 2 cm long.

The annual inflorescence is 2 to 3.5 m high. The short-stalked, green to yellow colored flowers are 30 to 45 mm long and appear in the upper area of ​​the inflorescence. The narrow, funnel-shaped flower tube is 7 to 10 mm long.

The variably shaped three-chamber capsule fruits are 12 to 20 mm long and 6 to 9 mm wide. The black seeds are up to 3.5 mm long and up to 2 mm wide.

The flowering period extends from July to August.

Systematics and distribution

The range of Agave filifera subsp. schidigera extends in Mexico from the states of Chihuahua , Durango , Sinaloa , Zacatecas , Durango , San Luis Potosi , Nayarit , Jalisco , Hidalgo , Veracruz , Aguascalientes , Guanajuato , Michoacán and Guerrero to an altitude of 2550 m. It is associated with numerous types of succulents and cacti.

The first description as Agave schidigera by Charles Lemaire was published in 1861. Bernd Ullrich placed the species in 1992 as a subspecies in the species Agave filifera . Synonyms are Agave vestitata Watson , Agave disceptata Drummond and Agave perplexans Trel.

Agave filifera subsp. schidigera is a representative of the Filiferae group . It is closely related to Agave filifera , but there are differences in shape, size and leaf structure.
