Aglaja Orgeni (actually Anna Maria von Görger St. Jörgen ; born December 17, 1841 in Rimaszombat , Austria-Hungary , †  March 15, 1926 in Vienna ) was a Hungarian opera singer ( coloratura soprano ) and singing teacher .

Life

Aglaja Orgeni came from a Hungarian noble family. She studied in Baden-Baden with Pauline Viardot and made her debut in 1865 as Amina in Bellini's La sonnambula at the Berlin Court Opera. In 1866 she went to the Covent Garden Opera in London , where she achieved great success as Lucia di Lammermoor and as Violetta in La traviata . From 1873 to 1878 she was engaged at the Munich Court Opera . She appeared on all the major stages in Europe and was one of the most sought-after color acronyms of her time.

From 1886 to 1914 she was a singing teacher (alongside Felix Draeseke and Gustav Scharfe, among others ) at the Dresden Conservatory , where she was the first woman at the Royal Conservatory to receive the title of professor in 1908. In 1914 she went to Vienna, where she taught singing until her death.
