Ahmet Şahin (* 1941 in Derepazarı ; † March 4, 1994 in Istanbul ) was a Turkish football player . Due to his many years of work for Beşiktaş Istanbul , he is associated with this association. He was an important part of the Beşiktaş team that won the Turkish championship twice in a row for the first time . During his active time as a football player, he was known by the nickname Arap or Arap Ahmet (German: Ahmet, the Arab ), a common Turkish name for dark-skinned people. He was better known by his other nickname. Since Ahmet Özacar , another Ahmet, joined the team at Beşiktaş in the summer of 1972 and he was already known as Küçük Ahmet (German: Little Ahmet), Şahin was henceforth known as Büyük Ahmet (German: The great Ahmet).

Player career

society

The beginnings of Şahin's career are not clear. Although an Ahmet was part of the Istanbulspor youth team until the summer of 1959 , the lack of a name means that a clear assignment is not possible. With the 1959/60 season he was in the professional squad of Istanbulspor. At this time, the Millî Lig was introduced in the spring of 1959 , the first nationwide league in Turkey. The first season was played from February 1959 to June 1959 and ended with the championship of Fenerbahçe Istanbul . Şahin's inclusion in the professional squad of Istanbulspor corresponded to the start of the season of the second season of this league. After he eked the first half of this season without competitive play only a reserve existence, he was used in the first game of the second half, the game of August 30, 1959 against Kasımpaşa Istanbul , from the start of the game and scored his first division goal in the 5th minute. From then on he was one of the most frequently used players and completed 15 of the possible 19 league games of his team. In his second season he increased his stakes to 20 league games. The third season he only played the game from the first day of the game. With the 1962/63 season he conquered a regular place and gradually established himself as a top performer. In the season 1964/65 he was with eight league goals the most successful goalscorer of his team and one of the most successful of the season.

His increasing performance over the last few seasons meant that several clubs were interested in Şahin. His club put it up for sale for a transfer fee of 85,000 Turkish lira . After the then president of Beşiktaş Istanbul , Hakkı Yeten , was convinced of Şahin's qualities as a right winger, his club got involved in the transfer negotiations and quickly came to an agreement with the player and his club. Finally, the club signed a two-year contract with Şahin in mid-July 1965 and paid him a salary of 40,000 Turkish lira for the two years. At his new club, according to the trade press, he already made the best impression among the existing strikers in the preparation for the season. With his new club he was able to win the pre-season cup of the Turkish Sports Journalists Association . During the season he became the most successful goalscorer of his new team and formed one of the most successful offensive teams in the league with his strike partners Ahmet Özacar , Yusuf Tunaoğlu , Sanlı Sarıalioğlu and Faruk Karadoğan . His team ended the season with a six-point lead over second-placed Galatasaray Istanbul as Turkish champions . Şahin was instrumental in this success with 16 league goals and again one of the most successful goal scorers in the league. With his team, Şahin won the Spor Toto Cup this season . After this season, Şahin played three more seasons for Beşiktaş, but he stayed partly due to illness and partly due to his lifestyle with eight to nine stakes per season.

After Şahin had last played no role in the squad planning at Beşiktaş, he moved to league rivals and promoted Samsunspor in the summer of 1969 . At this club he played the following two seasons. In the summer of 1971 he moved to the third division and club of his home province of Rize , to Rizespor . Here he played at least until the summer of 1972.

National team

Şahin was nominated for the first time for the squad of the Turkish national team in November 1965 by national coach Puppo Sandro as part of a qualifying game of the 1966 World Cup against the Czechoslovak national team and made his international debut in this match. Then it was no longer considered.
