The company was founded in August 1995 and began flight operations in March 1996. In 2013 it ceased operations.

Incidents
Air Memphis recorded three incidents in its history, one of which was fatal:
- On March 10, 1998, an Air Memphis Boeing 707-300C crashed while taking off from Mombasa . The cargo plane grazed after lifting structures of lights , hit back on to the ground, broke and caught fire. All six occupants were killed (see also Air Memphis Boeing 707 accident in Mombasa ) .
