Air Cairo is an Egyptian airline based in Cairo and based at Cairo International Airport . It was created in August 2003 and uses the name of the first Air Cairo , which was renamed Cairo Aviation at the same time .
history
In 1997, the Egyptian entrepreneur Ibrahim Kamil founded the airline Air Cairo , which started operations in November 1998 with two Tupolev Tu-204s . The company carried out freight flights and passenger transports on an ad hoc charter basis and also used its machines in wet lease for the logistics company TNT Express .
When the charter airline Shorouk Air , which was 51% owned by Egypt Air , ceased its flight operations in 2003, free capacities arose in the Egyptian IT charter traffic . Ibrahim Kamil used this opportunity to found a new airline, which should primarily be active in the IT charter sector. He was able to win Egypt Air and Banque du Caire as business partners, who took over 40% and 20% of the company shares respectively. The new company was founded in August 2003 with a seed capital of 100 million Egyptian pounds. Ibrahim Kamil transferred the name of his previous airline to the new company. The original Air Cairo was also named Cairo Aviation .
On December 5, 2018, Air Cairo's license to fly into Germany was revoked by the Luftfahrt-Bundesamt (Federal Aviation Office) after the company had violated safety requirements with regard to the loading of catering. In response to the license revocation, which at this point should last until April 2019, TUI and the Thomas Cook Group announced that they would no longer use Air Cairo charter flights in the future. The entry ban was lifted on December 21, 2018.
