history

Air Via was founded on June 13, 1990 as the first private airline in Bulgaria and has since provided flight services for various European tour operators . These were initially carried out with Tupolev Tu-154M , which was sold to the Russian UTair in 2005 and replaced by Airbus A320-200 .

Air Via ceased operations at the end of 2016.

Destinations

Air Via flew from its bases in Sofia and Varna as well as from Burgas mainly to destinations in Germany , Austria and Switzerland and connected these with European and especially Bulgarian holiday destinations.

Incidents

• On May 24, 2013, an Airbus A320-200 coming from Leipzig ( aircraft registration LZ-MDR ) rolled over the runway at Varna Airport in strong wind gusts and ended up in a nearby field. During the subsequent evacuation, two passengers suffered broken bones.
• On July 4, 2014 an A320-200 (aircraft registration number LZ-MDB ) landed at Leipzig / Halle Airport in a tail strike . There were no injuries; the planned return flight had to be carried out with a different machine. The Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation is investigating the incident.
