Akron (born May 1, 1948 in Münsterlingen ; † October 11, 2017 in St. Gallen ), whose real name was Karl Friedrich Frey , also Carl-Friedrich Frey and Charles Frey , was a Swiss artist , musician , author , astrologer and occultist .

life and work

Akron attended the Catholic canton secondary school in St. Gallen from 1961 to 1964 . In 1967 he completed a commercial apprenticeship with the National Insurance Basel . He then worked as a musician in various night clubs in Germany. In 1969 he founded Blackstone, one of the first Swiss underground magazines, and came into contact with esoteric currents.

From 1969 to 1972 he was a co-founder of the Black Magic band Black Mass and at times the drummer of the cult band Amon Düül . With Amon Düül there was a scandal and a procedure for blasphemy due to an alleged black mass with a naked virgin on the cross, which was part of the band's show. The procedure came to nothing, but Akron's work permit in Germany was no longer extended. In 1972 Akron's first book, Whose Eye are the Stars? at a small publisher. In 1975 he wrote an experimental novel, The Fifth Wall , which became the basis of the graphic novel The Oracle of the Underworld . In 1976 Akron wrote the rock opera Pyrrho , which premiered with the Swiss band Island in the St. Gallen City Theater.

From 1974 to 1978 Akron was a cultural critic for AZ in Eastern Switzerland and from 1980 had his own column in the St. Galler Tagblatt. In 1988 his book Jenseits der Schwelle was published . The book deals with the spiritual energies of the outer planets of the solar system. In 1989 the follow-up volume In the Light of the Sun was published , which deals with the inner planets of the solar system.

In 1992 Akron's Giger Tarot, created in collaboration with the Swiss artist HR Giger , was presented in two large vernissages in the Giger Bar in Chur and the Baviera Gallery in Zurich . On Halloween 1994 Akron founded the Templum Baphomae , a group that deals with shadow work , making people aware of the repressed parts of the personality. In 1996 Akron began work on his Dante trilogy , which he considered to be his life's work. In June 1997, Akron's contract with Urania Verlag was terminated because, in the opinion of a lecturer at the time, the Dante trilogy did not fit into the publisher's program. In July 2001 Akron founded Akron Verlags AG , which published the second part of the Dante trilogy in 2002 . In the same year, preparations for the Akron tarot began.

At the same time, he developed the Dante comic series together with the Cologne artist Voenix for more than a decade. On August 2, 2004, a few hours after the final corrections to the Akron Tarot, Akron suffered a ruptured appendix and a brief cardiac arrest due to an allergy to an anesthetic. The Akron tarot , which Akron had worked out with the artist Siegfried Otto Hüttengrund, was published at the 2004 book fair. After the merger of Urania-Verlag with Königsfurt, Akron was asked by the new editing department of Königsfurt-Urania Verlag to resume cooperation, which happened in the fall 2007 led to the opulently illustrated edition of Akron's Crowley Tarot Guide , his magnum opus.

In 2005 there was a collaboration between Olaf Francke and Akron for the book Akrons Crowley Tarot Guide . It was planned that both authors would publish this book together. In the course of the work, the authors fell apart and Francke got his publishing rights back. Based on a ruling by the Leipzig Regional Court in 2008, Francke undertook to no longer accuse Akron of plagiarizing him for the book . In return, Akron had to acknowledge that parts of his book are based on Francke's work.

In 2008 Akron commented on the global financial crisis of the time in a multi-page interview with the Swiss business magazine Leader . In 2012 Akron was hit by an underage driver without a driver's license while backing up while he was cutting roses in his front garden at St. Gallen's Ruhberg, suffered serious injuries and fell into a coma for a while. He worked through this turning point in his late work, Die Pforten , in close collaboration with the painter and singer Patricia Coney.

Akron died on 11 October 2017 at the age of 69 years at a cancer .
