The Kaufbeuren share brewery is the oldest still existing brewery in Kaufbeuren . It sells its products primarily in the Allgäu , the rest of the Swabian district and partly in Upper Bavaria . The corporate form is a stock corporation , which is traded on the Munich Stock Exchange. However, there are only a few shares in free float.

The first documentary mention took place in 1308, according to which a certain Heinrich der Twinger, a citizen of Buron (Kaufbeuren), made the municipal Heilig-Geist-Spital the sole heir. Among other things, he bequeathed his “Sedelhaus” (brewhouse).

In 1807 today's company headquarters were established with the construction of a beer cellar in the "Tänzelhölzchen". On March 17, 1885, the brewery was converted into the " Actienbrauerei zur Traube" , taking over the "Zur Traube" brewery from Gustav Walch .

In 1907 the company merged with the "Löwen-Brauerei E. Wiedemann" and the company was initially renamed "Aktienbrauerei Traube und Löwe". Since 1920 the brewery has been called "Aktienbrauerei Kaufbeuren". A few years later, the majority in the Mindelheim “Lammbrauerei Aktiengesellschaft” was acquired.

Non-alcoholic drinks have also been produced since 1958.

In 1997 the last local competitor, the “Rosen Brewery”, was taken over.

After several changes of company management and main shareholders in the early 2000s ("Allgäuer Getränke Beteiligungs GmbH & Co. KG" / Klaus Rübelmann together with "Interbrau Finanz-Consult GmbH" / Jens Schleifenbaum, then "Sparkasse Reutte ", then the Viennese "Ahmed & Mayer Global Trade Handelsgesellschaft mbH "), combined with an annual loss of over 600,000 euros in the 2004/2005 financial year, were owned by the brothers Hans-Theodor and Peter Ralf Stritzl (including former majority shareholders of ewt multimedia ) from November 2006 through their" Hopfen & Malz GbR "With headquarters in Augsburg in possession of a controlling majority of the shares (91.5% of the voting rights).

In 2013, the operational brewing business was spun off into the ABK Betriebsgesellschaft der Aktienbrauerei Kaufbeuren GmbH . The Aktienbrauerei Kaufbeuren AG owns 45% of this. The remaining 55% is owned by the British investment company ROK Stars PLC , founded by US billionaire John Paul DeJoria . ROK Stars plans to double its beer sales through internationalization. In September 2017, John Paul DeJoria also took over the Aktienbrauerei Kaufbeuren AG through his investment company JP's Nevada Trust .

Kaufbeuren Fendt Vario wheat

Depending on the region, the traditional types of beer such as light and wheat beer , but also Pilsner beer are brewed. A specialty is the "Buronator" double bock beer. The medieval name of the city of Kaufbeuren, Buron, was the inspiration for the name.

Non-alcoholic drinks such as cola mix , lemonade , table water and juice are produced under the brand name »Leo«.
