Alain Bieber (born December 27, 1978 in Wesel ) is a German-French cultural manager and curator . He is the artistic director and managing director of the NRW Forum in Düsseldorf .

life and work

From 1999 to 2005 Alain Bieber studied general rhetoric, communication and political science, modern German literature and sociology at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen and at the Institut d'études politiques in Paris.

After an internship at the magazine Max and an internship at Spiegel Online , he worked from 2007 to 2010 as an editor for the art magazine ART in Hamburg. From October 2010 to March 2015 he was editor-in-chief of ARTE Creative , an online magazine, network and laboratory for contemporary culture of the European broadcaster ARTE in Strasbourg.

Bieber taught as a guest lecturer at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen in the media studies course. In 2004 he founded the weblog rebel: art and in 2005 the International Sticker Award together with Andreas Ullrich . From 2007 to 2008 he curated the video magazine OH! , from 2009 to 2010 the virtual kiosk and the fair for art magazines and fanzines GuteSeiten and from 2009 to 2010 under the title Parasites - illegal exhibitions “Art exhibitions in unauthorized places”.

Since April 1, 2015 he has been the artistic director of the  NRW Forum  in  Düsseldorf . His contract, which should expire in 2020, will be extended and the NRW Forum will be integrated into the Museum Kunstpalast as a "subsidiary" .

Since 2004, Bieber has curated solo and group exhibitions across Europe on political, technological and pop-cultural topics. Since 2017 he has also been the director of the Düsseldorf photo festival Duesseldorf Photo .
