Alain Pellet

Alain Pellet (born  January 2, 1947 in Paris ) is a French lawyer and internationally recognized expert in the field of international law , who was professor at the University of Paris-Nord from 1974 to 1990 and has taught at the University of Paris-Nanterre since 1990 . To date, he has represented more than 20 countries in more than 40 proceedings before the International Court of Justice , making him one of the most active lawyers in this area worldwide. In recognition of his work, he was accepted into the Legion of Honor and the Institut de Droit International , among others , as well as awarded national orders of merit from various countries and honorary doctorates from several universities.

Life

Alain Pellet was in 1947 in Paris was born and gained in 1968 with a degree in law at the Sorbonne and in the same year, a diploma in Public Administration at Sciences Po . In addition, a year later he obtained further degrees in political science and public law at the Sorbonne . In 1974, in addition to his doctorate, he was also qualified to teach public law and political science.

He then served from 1974 to 1990 as a professor at the University of Paris-Nord , however, was initially to 1977 by Algeria seconded, where he attended the University Mentouri Constantine from 1975 to 1977 and on the National École d'Administration d'Alger worked . From 1980 to 1999 he also taught at the Institut d'études politiques de Paris. Since 1990 he has been a professor at the University of Paris-Nanterre . From 1990 to 2011, Alain Pellet was a member of the United Nations International Law Commission , which he also headed from 1997/1998. To date, he has represented more than 20 different countries in more than 40 proceedings before the International Court of Justice in The Hague and was also involved in two proceedings before the International Tribunal for the Sea and in several arbitrations by the Permanent Court of Arbitration and the International Center for Settlement of Investment Disputes . From 1991 to 1993 he was a member of the Badinter Commission , which was set up by the European Community to clarify legal questions that resulted from the break-up of Yugoslavia .

Alain Pellet is married and has four children.

Awards

Alain Pellet has been a Knight of the French Legion of Honor since 1998 and received the Knight's Cross in 1986 and the Officer's Cross of the Ordre des Palmes Académiques in 2007 . In addition, he has been awarded national orders of merit from various countries, including the Slovak Order of the White Double Cross in 2006 . Since 2007 he has been a member of the Institut de Droit International . The Brazilian Universidade Estácio de Sá (1998), the Hungarian University of Miskolc (2000) and the Russian Foreign Trade Academy (2002) awarded him an honorary doctorate .
