Alan Lawrence Culpepper (born September 15, 1972 in Fort Worth , Texas ) is a retired American long-distance runner .

In 1997 he retired from the World Athletics Championships in Athens over 5000 m in the preliminary run. In 1999 he finished 21st at the World Cross Country Championships in Belfast on the long distance and did not reach the finish line at the World Championships in Seville over 10,000 m . In 2000 he was over 10,000 m second in the US eliminations (Trials) for the Olympic Games in Sydney , but caught a cold there and was eliminated in the preliminary run.

At the World Championships in Edmonton in 2001 and in Paris / Saint-Denis in 2003 , he came in 18th and 14th place over 10,000 m. In 2001 he finished second and in 2002 third at the Jacksonville River Run . On his debut over the 42.195 km distance, he finished sixth in the 2002 Chicago Marathon in 2:09:41 hours. In 2004 he won the US Trials for the Olympic Games in Athens in 2:11:42 h and was twelfth in the Olympic marathon in 2:15:26 h. In 2005 he finished second in the Jacksonville River Run, fourth in fourth, and twelfth in the Chicago Marathon. In 2006 he finished fifth in Boston, and in 2007 he did not finish in the US trials for the Beijing Olympics .

He won national titles in 2002 over 5000 m, 1999 and 2003 over 10,000 m and 1999, 2003 and 2007 in cross country .

Alan Culpepper is 1.85 m tall and weighs 59 kg. He graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder with a degree in geography and sociology in 1995 and has been married to medium and long-distance runner Shayne Culpepper (nee Wille) since 1997 . The couple have three children and run a sports store called Solepepper in Louisville , Colorado .
