Alan Moulder (born June 11, 1959 in Boston , Great Britain ) is a British sound engineer and music producer .

Career

Alan Moulder played guitar in his youth, but discovered that he was more interested in the technical side of music and began to be particularly interested in studio technology. After dropping out at the UK Department of Agriculture, he worked as an assistant at Trident Studios in London in the early 1980s . There he assisted a. a. Flood , who worked there as a sound engineer, on the production of a song by Jesus and Mary Chain . The band then hired him as a sound engineer for their live sound and for their album Automatic from 1989. The record was a success and the label Creation Records hired him for productions for Ride and My Bloody Valentine .

Because of his work for Jesus And Mary Chain, Smashing Pumpkins and Nine Inch Nails also became aware of Moulder. So it happened that in 1992 he worked on two of the most successful alternative rock albums as a sound engineer: Siamese Dream and The Downward Spiral . This collaboration led to the fact that he now also appeared as a producer. He produced the debut album by Marilyn Manson and in 1995, together with Flood, the album Mellon Collie and the infinite Sadness of the Smashing Pumpkins. After further work for Moby and The Cure , it finally came in 1997, again with Flood, to a collaboration with U2 for their album Pop . With this work Moulder had established himself, followed by other productions for Nine Inch Nails, Smashing Pumpkins, Billy Corgan , The Killers and Interpol .
