style

The Ghosts project is stylistically very different from other nine-inch nails publications. Above all, the absence of vocals and the sparsely used guitar sounds are unique in the discography of the Nine Inch Nails. The pieces are kept very synthetic and many pieces are rather calm and ambient-heavy , but there are also some rather lively pieces.

Forms of publication

The first 9 titles (i.e. Ghosts I ) can be downloaded legally, free of charge and DRM- free. The full download costs $ 5. The album is also available as a double CD, a quadruple LP and two different special editions. The more expensive of the two special editions, called the Ultra-Deluxe Limited Edition , which was limited to 2500 hand-numbered editions and cost $ 300, sold out in just two days.

Reviews

The critics' ratings varied. In Allmusic and Pitchfork Media , there were two and a half out of five and five out of ten average reviews. Laut.de , on the other hand, gives a better rating with four out of five points and states:

"And as terribly disturbing as" Ghosts I-IV "sounds at times, the industrial mastermind managed to surprise again."

On Metacritic , an average of twelve different reviews, the album gets 69%.

Awards

Ghosts was nominated for the 2009 Grammy Awards in the categories of Best Rock Instrumental Performance and Best Box Set or Limited Edition Package . It was the first ever Grammy nomination for CC-licensed music.
