Trent Reznor produced the background music and sound effects for the computer game Quake by id Software in 1996 . For this reason, the ammunition boxes of a certain weapon, the nail gun, in the game Quake also have the logo of the Nine Inch Nails (NIN) clearly visible. He also put together the soundtrack for Oliver Stone's film Natural Born Killers . The remix "Closer: Precursor" is quoted in the opening credits for the film Sieben . Some of the songs in the film Lost Highway , whose soundtrack he also compiled, also came from Trent Reznor's pen, including the single The Perfect Drug , the music video of which was again lavishly directed by Closer director Mark Romanek. For the film Tomb Raider , Nine Inch Nails contributed the song Deep , for which a video was shot. For the soundtrack to the video games American McGee's Alice from Rogue Entertainment and Doom 3 from id Software, Reznor was not responsible, although he originally worked on it, but Chris Vrenna , former drummer with Nine Inch Nails, who has been working on one for a long time Solo project called Tweaker works.

Trent Reznor has also worked with artists like Tori Amos , David Bowie , Pigface, Rob Halford , Marilyn Manson , The Neptunes , 1000 Homo DJs, Josh Wink , A Perfect Circle , Queens of the Stone Age , Peter Gabriel , Saul Williams , Peter Murphy and U2 worked together. There was also a side project by Reznor with Tapeworm, in which, among others, Danny Lohner and Maynard James Keenan from Tool took part, but never came out due to label disputes. Only the song Vacant , which comes from the first of several attempts for Tapeworm, appeared in 2004 on the album eMOTIVe by Keenan's second band A Perfect Circle under the name Passive .
