Alan Williams (Bishop)
Alan Williams SM (born March 15, 1951 in Blackburn , Lancashire ) is an English religious and Roman Catholic Bishop of Brentwood .
Life
Alan Williams studied science at the University of Durham and received a PhD in psychology from the University of London . He studied philosophy and Catholic theology in the Allen Hall seminary in the Archdiocese of Westminster . He holds a degree in theology from the University of Cambridge and a master's degree in religious education from the University of Hull .
He joined the community of the Marist Fathers and made his profession on September 8, 1976 . On April 30, 1983, he received the sacrament of ordination . He taught at St. Mary College in Blackburn and was director of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Walsingham from 1992 to 2000 . From 2000 to 2005 he was chaplain at Sheffield Hallam University . From 2005 to 2008 he was pastor in Sidcup in the London Borough of Bexley and from 2008 again director of the pilgrimage site of Our Lady of Walsingham . He was also Provincial of his order in England.
Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Brentwood on April 14, 2014. The Archbishop of Westminster , Vincent Gerard Nichols Cardinal , donated on July 1 of that year, the episcopal ordination . Co- consecrators were his predecessor Thomas McMahon and the Bishop of Menevia , Thomas Matthew Burns SM.
